The Department of Neurology Clinical Information

Neurology Clinic is available in MH3 Orthopedics-Neurology Hospital for local and international patients. The Inpatient wards have 45 beds on the 7th floor, Neurointensive Care Unit has 32 beds on the 2th floor, polyclinics and electrophysiology labs are located on the ground floor.

Polyclinic: Outpatients with or without appointment are treated in the general Neurology Polyclinics located on the ground floor. Furthermore, academically qualified members in their fields and specialist phyisicians provide special service of neurological diseases by appointment.

All types of cerebrovascular diseases are investigated and treated in our clinic including Neurology Polyclinics, Service Wards, ICU and 7/24 Emergency

Our clinic is one of the rare centers where clot-buster (thrombolytic, t-PA) and interventional endovascular treatment are carried out in early cerebrovascular occlusions. 

2 Professors , 10 Associate Professors, 1 Assistant Professor, 9 Experts, 20 Research Assistants work in our Neurology Department. 

The inpatient rooms have sink, television (for each patient), refrigerator and a sofa for the companion to sleep. 

4 Electromyoneurography (ENMG) devices, 4 digital Electroencephalography (EEG) devices and 1 portable EEG device are available in Electrophysiology Laboratuary on the ground floor.

Experienced Neurologists work in our Electrophysiology Laboratuary and they can perform all kinds of ENMG protocols. EEG is performed at the bedside for suitable patients with a portable EEG device.

Approximately 6000 EEG and 12000 ENMG protocols are performed per year in The Neurology Department. 

We have 12 general polyclinic rooms and special outpatient rooms for stroke, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, movement disorders, neurocognitive diseases, neuromuscular diseases, headache and botulinum toxin injections. 

Special Services:

Botulinum toxin administration in various neurological diseases 

Application of IV thrombolytic therapy in ischemic cerebrovascular diseases 

Endovascular intervention of ischemic cerebrovascular patients 

Regulation of device setting for Parkinson's patients who we apply Deep Brain Stimulation including duodopa and apoGo in the treatment of Parkinson's disease 

Performing neuropsychological tests in cognitive dysfunctions 

Application of current treatments such as natalizumab, rituximab, mitoxantrone, fingolimod, teriflunomide, dimethyl fumarate in demyelinating diseases such as multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica (devic's disease); 

Application of plasmapheresis in various diseases (multiple sclerosis, guillain barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis etc.)

Our Interventional Neurology Team has approximately 12 years of experience, equipped with highly advanced medical devices and applying up-to-date technologies in the best ways. The treatment techniques applied in the world are all available in our hospital. Patients with a stroke

Our Electrophysiology Laboratory are located on the ground floor. EEG (electroencephalography) and ENMG (electroneuromyography) are performed and accompanied by our experienced academic members. ENMG evaluation can be carried out based on anterior horn cells of spinal cord (motor-neuron disorders), nerve roots (cervical disc hernia, spinal disc herniation), nerve plexus (congenital or traumatic injuries), nerves (facial palsy, nerve compressions and injuries, carpal tunnel syndrome and other entrapment neuropathies, polyneuropathy), neuromuscular junction (myastenia gravis) or stiffness of muscle fibers (myopathy) in our lab. 

Parkinson's Disease and Other Movement Disorders: 

Parkinson's Disease is a movement disorder which manifests itself as impairment of brain cells and slowness of movements and shivering due to dopamine deficiency. It can occur in middle-age and elderly people typically, but as well as young ages. Close follow-up of patients considering expected effects and possible side effects, routine doctor examinations and dose monitoring, dose adjustment when necessary, taking precautions against side effects in time. In our Movement Disorders Polyclinic, we regulate our patients's medication, evaluate other diseases causing Parkinsonism clinical presentation. Movement disorders manifesting themselves in involuntary reflexes other than Parkinson's Disease such as shivering, dystonia (involuntary contraction), chorea (movements in a manner of dancing), ataxia (gait disorders) are investigated and treated in our polyclinic.

Huntington Disease

Huntington Disease is an inherited disorder which nerve cells in brain progressively degenerates and it typically occurs between the ages of 30-50, affecting movements, behaviors and memory. Patients rather have involuntary movements. When a mother or a father carries abnormal gene, the possibility of the occurence of the disease is %50. It is predicted that there are much more people having Huntington Disease than expected in our country. In our polyclinic, the follow-up of patients and their companions are carried out, genetic tests are performed after genetic counseling while our psychiatrists handle patients in the light of multidisciplinary approach. 

Deep Brain Stimulation (Brain Pacemaker Procedure) 

When Parkinson's Disease progresses, oral administration of drugs is possibly poor, requiring higher medication doses or more frequently intake which may cause increase in the side effects. If the time periods when the patient is slow are more than 4-5 hours and if involuntary movements impair the quality of life despite drug regulation in every way possible, we follow our patients in Advanced Stage Parkinson's Disease Polyclinic. These patients are candidates for device-assisted treatments. Deep brain stimulation (brain pacemaker) is performed on patients suitable for surgical procedures with brain surgeons.  Levodopa-carbidopa intestinal gel (duodopa) is applied to patients who are not suitable for surgical procedures by means of using an apomorphine pump or PEG-J. In our Advanced Stage Parkinson's Disease polyclinic, brain pacemaker settings can be adjusted and routine follow-up of patients having a history of apomorphine or duodopa pump applied are carried out.
