The Nigerien patient, who hadn't feed himself for years due to esophageal obstruction regained his health in Ankara City Hospital.

The Nigerien patient, who hadn't feed himself for years due to esophageal obstruction regained his health in Ankara City Hospital. While he was 44 kilos when he came to our hospital, the patient started to eat thanks to the esophagus canal opened with magnets and he gained weight up to 64 kilos. İsmael Boubacar Sanda, 26, who lives in Niger, applied to a hospital about 5 years ago with complaints of swallowing difficulties. Doctors in Niger suggested him to have a surgery, and the young man underwent surgery three times at regular intervals. The esophagus of the unfortunate patient was completely closed after the operations. His weight decreased to 44 kilos as he couldn't even swallow his saliva and then his solution was to come to Turkey. A method was applied for the first time in the world to eliminate the risks of surgery for the Nigerien patient who came to our Ankara City Hospital about 2 months ago. During the procedure, a canal was opened in Sanda's esophagus with magnets inserted from his mouth to his stomach. When the surgery was performed, the young man who gained weight up to 64 kilos, was happy to be healthy as he was eating whatever he wished. İsmael Boubacar Sanda commented on whether he had eaten or drunk anything before the treatment: “My life had been very difficult. I hadn't wanted to talk with people. I had been just thinking about my illness. I hadn't been even talking with my family. I had been afraid, I'm talking with my friends right now. I'm fine now, I'm eating. Thank you very much Turkey.'' Expressing that he'd missed eating all the dishes, Sanda said that after he regained his health, he ate plenty of food. The gastroenterology specialist of our Ankara City Hospital, Assoc. Prof. Bulent Ödemiş, "I used magnet treatment method in Turkey for the first time 5 years ago. I used it for biliary tract before. But the treatment of canalization in the esophagus with magnets was performed by us for the first time in the world on İsmael.” Stating that they entered the mouth and stomach of the patient and placed a magnet on both ends of the esophagus, Ödemiş said, “We saw that the magnets moved each other and united on the 15th day. We removed the magnets in one way. We performed the procedure, which was very difficult to do with surgery in the esophagus without risking the patient. We expanded the opened canal and then he gained 20 kilos in two months.”
