The Department of Gastroenterology

In our department, we embody 8 professors, 11 assoc. professors, 2 academic physicians, 7 Gastroenterology specialists, 11 internal medicine specialists/subspecialty assistants and our outpatient/inpatient services are carried out by them.

Diseases diagnosed and treated in our department are; esophagus stomach and intestinal diseases, liver, gallbladder and biliary tract diseases, pancreatic diseases.

Procedures in our Gastroenterology Department:

Upper gastrointestinal system endoscopy (esophagus, stomach and duodenum evaluation)
PEG (percutaneous endoscopic gastrostomy (feeding tube insertion)
Lower gastrointestinal system endoscopy (colonoscopy) (large intestine evaluation)
Double balloon enteroscopy (small bowel evaluation)
Endoscopic Ultrasonography (evaluation of lesions in esophagus, stomach, pancreas or biliary tract)
Anorectal endosonography (evaluation of fistula or masses at the last section of the large intestine)
Endoscopic Retrograde Cholangiopancreaticography (ERCP) (diagnosis and treatment of stones or mass obstructions in the biliary tract and pancreatic duct)
Liver biopsy
Motility laboratory (esophageal manometer, esophageal phMeter, anorectal manometer)


Special Procedures in our Gastroenterology Department:

Advanced therapeutic ERCP (ERCP, cystogastrostomy, necrosectomy, papillectomy etc. in patients with altered anatomy)
Advanced therapeutic Endosonography (cystogastrostomy, necrosectomy, cyst fluid sampling)
Therapeutic double balloon enteroscopy
Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR)
Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD)
Spark plug and balloon dilatation in GIS strictures
PEG and PEJ application
Narrow Band Imaging (NBI)

There are 6 outpatient polyclinics

2 Inflammatory Bowel Diseases outpatient polyclinics

2 Hepatology outpatient polyclinics

1 Pancreatic outpatient polyclinic on the B1 floor in The General Hospital

Our department has the capacity of 66 beds in total on the 6th floor in The General Hospital (MH1)

Our department has an outpatient polyclinic for liver transplantation in The Oncology Hospital (MH6) and we have 21 beds more in the same building.

Upper GIS endoscopy, lower GIS endoscopy rooms, Endosonography, Ultrasonography and liver biopsy Unit, ERCP and motility Lab work together with our Gastroenterology Endoscopy Department.

How can I visit Gastroenterology Polyclinic for examination?

Outpatients can take a number from the desks in order when they are in the hospital. Patients who need inpatient treatment are either hospitalized immediately in the service wards or their names are written in our appointment book to contact by our secretaries.

Patients who are listed in the appointment book are called by the service secretary for admission when a suitable room is arranged for them depending on availability.
