 Pediatric Hemodialysis

General Information About The Unit

There are 10+1 hemodialysis machines including 1 HCV (+), 1 HbsAg (+), 8 seronegative and 1 extra hemodialysis machine in our center with the capacity of 10 beds. We have been providing hemodialysis service for hospitalized patients with chronic kidney disease and patients with indications for urgent dialysis due to acute renal failure including chronic pediatric patients, interprovincial 'guest' pediatric patients coming to the hospital for medical purpose by the year of 2020. Intensive Care Dialysis is performed via 2 portable hemodialysis machines in Intensive Care Units.

Our pediatric patients who get service in the unit are welcomed in the help desk and referred to the session lounge together with their relative. Patient Session Lounge, patient changing rooms, patient waiting hall, emergency response room, patient toilets, outpatient registration desk, conference hall, nurse room, specialist's room are available. Patient rooms have LCD TVs. Television broadcasting is provided for training purposes in all the areas. Transportation of our patients is provided via dialysis patient transportation vehicles by procurement service of our headquarter.

Our center offers service with 5 nephrologists, 2 hemodialysis certificated nurses, 2 hemodialysis technicians, 1 peritoneal dialysis certificated nurse, 1 secretary and 1 attendant. Additionally, dietitians, medical social workers, psychologists and interpreters offer service in case of need. Peritoneal Dialysis Unit provides service for followed-up peritoneal dialysis patients with training and changing rooms in our polyclinic. Moreover, administration, training and follow-ups of peritoneal dialysis treatment are provided for admitted critical care patients and admission ward patients who are diagnosed with acute kidney injury or chronic kidney disease.

Diagnose and Treatment

Dialysis treatment is carried out to treat diseases such as:

Acute Kidney Injury

Chronic Kidney Disease

Intoxications (drug intoxication, chemical intoxication)

Congenital Metabolic Disorders

Featured Services in The Unit:

The definite treatment in children with chronic kidney disease is organ transplant but dialysis treatment must be administered until a compatible organ is found. There are two different techniques as hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis. Our healthcare team determines which technique is appropriate for the child.

Units

1- Hemodialysis Unit

2- Peritoneal Dialysis Unit

1) Hemodialyis Procedure;

Compounds such as creatinine, phosphorus, potassium levels in blood elevate due to kidneys losing their function. While these compounds which are harmful for the body are removed normally through urination, this process is conducted through hemodialysis machine called hemodialysis treatment in patients with chronic kidney disease. Hemodialysis is a procedure which unfiltered blood of a patient is cleansed by passing through a dialyser and then blood is passed back to the patient again. A fistula or catheter is used for this procedure. The physician determines the duration of the session, the dialyzer and dialysate used during dialysis and how many sessions per week must be scheduled for hemodialysis in accordance with the physiological needs of the patient.

2)Peritoneal Dialysis Procedure;

Peritoneal dialysis is a procedure that purifying blood of a patient from wastes and regulating body's fluid balance through a thin, soft, indwelling tube (catheter) made of silicone placed into the abdominal cavity of the patient by a minimally invasive surgery and with a specially prepared solution to be given by using the patient's own peritoneum. This special solution prepared during peritoneal dialysis is exchanged with fresh and clean solution dwelling in the lining of your abdomen for 4 to 6 hours. Components in blood such as urea, creatinine which need to be excreted and excess fluid accumulated in the body of the patient pass into the solution during this dwelling time. This procedure which the solution is infused into the peritoneal cavity and drained back is not performed through any machine, but taking the advantage of gravitational force. This type of dialysis procedure is called Continuous Ambulatory Peritoneal Dialysis (CAPD) The peritoneal dialysis performed through a machine at home is called Automated Peritoneal Dialysis (APD) The patient places Y-Set and solution bags into the peritoneal dialysis machine and starts the machine before going to sleep in this treatment technique. The machine infuses the dialysate into the peritoneal cavity, dwells it and drains out while your child sleeps during all night long (8-12 hours) Treatment might be changed depending upon the condition of the child. Both techniques are applied successfully in our center. After patient and patient relatives undergo a special training, the machine is programmed and sent home to provide home dialysis performed in the child's house. Home peritoneal dialysis has more advantages in favor of children for a more balanced diet, school continuation and fewer hospital visits.

How can I undergo examination?

Patients must come to the unit at the scheduled times and on the scheduled dates compatible with the session program for hemodialysis. Out of town patients coming to Ankara for hemodialysis treatment must contact our hemodialysis unit via phone. Peritoneal dialysis patients need to make an appointment for one of the polyclinics of Nephrology before coming to the hospital via the call center 182.

3- Can dialysis patients travel?

Yes, they can. They can travel with medications and dialysis supplies with the approval of their doctor and nurse after having the information of the healthcare facilities in the area they will travel to.

4-Diyaliz hastaları egzersiz yapabilir mi? Can dialysis patients exercise?
