The separated eyes of little Ayşenur were surgically brought closer

Ayşenur Yavuz, 5 years old, whose eyes are wider than normal due to a rare genetically inherited disease and who has deformities around them, regained her health after an operation performed in our Ankara City Hospital.

Stating that they corrected the patient's face shape with surgery, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Erkin Ünlü said, "The patient complained not only that her eyes were wide apart, but also that her nose was straight. We made our preparations, invited the patient, asked for preliminary examinations. We managed to perform this very difficult surgery with our own special methods."

Dr. Ünlü also stated that this type of surgery is risky and said:

"In this type of surgery, small or large-scale damages may occur in patients, and even the patient may be lost on the operating table. We have prepared a template for what we can do with minimal or even no harm to the patient. By applying our own technique, we have reduced the gap between the eyes of our patient from 6 centimeters to 3 centimeters. While it is possible to approach 2 cm with standard techniques, we took the eyeballs and orbital structures 3 cm inside without causing any harm to the patient. We also created a nose for the patient.”

Stating that the operation took about 4 hours, Prof. Dr. Ramazan Erkin Ünlü said that although a short time passed after the operation, the patient recovered quickly.

Prof. Dr. Ramazan Erkin Ünlü underlined that all surgeries performed abroad in the field of plastic surgery can also be performed in Turkey, and noted that face and arm transplant operations can also be performed successfully in our Ankara City Hospital, and that the necessary permits have been obtained in this regard.
