Ankara City Hospital Cardiology Clinic; provides services with cardiology outpatient polyclinics, coronary intensive care units, cardiology inpatient wards and catheterization-angiography laboratory in The Cardiovascular Hospital. The aim of the department is to protect heart health, to diagnose and treat heart diseases. Cardiology Clinic serves with the highest level of technological equipment and infrastructure. The center offers treatment to patients for examination, diagnosis, treatment, rehabilitation and (coronary) intensive care. 19 Professors, 27 Associate Professors, 2 Assistant Professors and 28 Attending Physicians work at the Ankara City Hospital Cardiology Department.
Diagnose and Treatment:
Diagnosis and treatment of all heart diseases can be performed in Ankara City Hospital Cardiology Department such as hypertension, coronary heart diseases, heart valve diseases, congenital heart diseases, rhythm disorders, heart failure, heart transplantation, aortic vessel diseases and peripheral vascular diseases.
Which diseases does our clinic provide service?
All diseases associated with the cardiovascular system are evaluated, diagnosed and treated in our department. In addition, there is an arrhythmia and heart failure outpatient polyclinic under The Cardiology Clinic. Our heart failure team working as a part of the cardiac transplant unit with cardiovascular surgery clinic, undertakes the task of identifying patients who need heart transplant and organizing follow-up.
Featured Procedures:
All technological innovations and developments in the field of cardiology are followed in our clinic. All of the special procedures in the field of Cardiology can be performed in our clinic. These procedures include TAVI (aortic valve implantation without surgery in severe aortic stenosis), peripheral vascular interventions (carotid and extremity interventions), endocardial and/or epicardial ablation procedures of ventricular tachyarrhythmias and atrial tachyarrhythmias (cryoablation and three-dimensional imaging with radiofrequency ablation), complex coronary artery interventions (bifurcation lesions and chronic total occlusions), pacemaker implantation procedures (ICD, CRT etc.) as well as percutaneous closure of patent ductus arteriosus, atrial septal defect and ventricular septal defect in the treatment of congenital heart diseases including mitral balloon valvuloplasty procedure in the treatment of rheumatic mitral valve disease are performed in our clinic.
Patients with heart valve prosthesis, the defects of the heart valve can also be percutaneously closed.
Units Under The Cardiology Department:
Cardiology polyclinics, exercise stress test room, tilt table test room, rhythm and blood pressure holter units, echocardiography imaging unit, coronary intensive care unit, cardiology service wards, angiography and electrophysiology laboratories work interactively with our cardiology clinic.
Electrocardiography (ECG):
It provides the transfer of the electrical conduction of the heart to the paper for the purpose of examining the work of the heart muscle and the nervous conduction system. Changes in test help healtcare professionals for diagnosis of heart diseases.
Exercise stress (Treadmill) test:
The exercise test is a test performed by taking ECGs consecutively while walking at certain speeds on the treadmill and measuring blood pressure. The effort test allows healtcare professionals to investigate the presence of cardiovascular disease or to investigate the effectiveness of treatment given to patients having cardiovascular disease. It also helps them to evaluate the response of arrhythmias with effort and to evaluate effort capacities of cardiovascular patients or people who plan to start sports.
Transthoracic Echocardiography Unit:
Echocardiography is the structural examination of the heart by ultrasound. All structural diseases of the heart can be diagnosed with the help of echocardiography. For example; heart failure, heart muscle diseases, heart valve diseases, hypertensive heart diseases, heart membrane diseases, intra-cardiac masses, clots, heart tumors, congenital heart abnormalities etc.
Transesophagial Echocardiography (TEE) Test:
In some cases where routine echocardiography images may be insufficient, it provides more detailed evaluation with closer look at the formations inside the heart.
ECG Holter:
It is an auxiliary test in the diagnosis of rhythm disorders of the heart. It is based on recording the heartbeat with an ECG-like system for 24-48 hours.
Blood Pressure Holter:
It is a test that records the blood pressure measurements and pulses of the patients at certain intervals for 24 hours. It provides important information in the diagnosis and treatment of hypertension.
Tilt Table Test :
It is a test used in the diagnosis of unexplained faining (syncope). It is useful in the diagnosis of unexplained episodes of lightheadedness, dizziness or fainting. The test can help healthcare professionals to determine if the cause is related to your heart rate or blood pressure.
Angiography Laboratory:
Coronary Angiography is a method that provides the detection of coronary artery diseases. Coronary angiography detects which area of the arteries feeding the heart narrows and on what scale. Drug therapy, stenting or bypass treatment may be required depending on the diffuseness of vascular disease. Coronary angiography is usually performed via the wrist artery in our clinic, but in cases where the wrist artery is not suitable for the procedure, a sheath is inserted through the groin artery.
Ankara City Hospital Angiography Unit operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition to the patients, having an angiography appointment are evaluated in the outpatient polyclinic and angiography is also performed. Evaluation of all the patients admitted to the emergency department with acute coronary syndrome is carried out by the cardiology consultant physician and the patient is taken to the angiography laboratory and the responsible artery is opened quickly.
Temporary and permanent pacemaker procedures can be performed in Ankara City Hospital Angiography Unit. Pacemakers can be used in bradyarrhythmia with decreased heart rate or in heart blocks as well as in treatment of heart failure to prevent sudden death. In fact, there are basically 3 types of pacemakers: Single-wire pacemakers, 2-wire pacemakers which prevent heart rate slowdown and 3-wire batteries used for the treatment of heart failure and also life-saving batteries also known as defibrillators by acting in the presence of serious arrhythmias in the heart. Pacemaker implanted patients are regularly checked in the pacemaker control outpatient polyclinic of our hospital.
Electrophysiology Laboratory:
Electrophysiological study is an interventional diagnosis and treatment method applied in the diagnosis and treatment of heart rhythm disorders. Heart rhythm is evaluated with the help of the signals and warnings received from the electrodes sent to the heart through thin sheaths placed in the groin vessels. In this way, diagnosed rhythm disorders can be treated with radiofrequency ablation or cryoablation method. Ablation procedure is applied in rhythm disorders that cannot be kept under control with drugs or if patients do not want to take life-long medication. In addition, some life-threatening rhythm disorders also require catheter ablation procedure.
