Our Medical Pathology Laboratory in Ankara City Hospital processes approximately 500 samples delivered per day, and performs all pathological tests such as macroscopy, routine histology, cytology, histochemistry, immunohistochemistry, immunofluorescence,

fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) and molecular pathology. The "frozen section" during surgery requires the pathologist to make a diagnosis during that surgery for critical decisions like the type of surgery or additional tissue removal.

Pathologists play a critical role in accurate diagnosis and appropriate treatment of diseases. Pathologists analyze small samples of tissue under microscopes to identify the diseases and decide whether tumors are benign or malignant. After examination, the

pathologist writes down a report, which generally includes diagnosis, therapy determination and prognosis. Our department hosts 3 professors, 8 associate professors, 1 assistant professor, 31 pathology physicians and 10 assistant physicians specialized in liver

pathology, gastro-intestinal pathology, uro-pathology, hemato-lymphoid pathology, gynecological pathology, lung pathology, skin pathology, neural system pathology, cytopathology, kidney pathology, head and neck pathology, soft tissue and bone pathology, breast

pathology, endocrine pathology and molecular pathology. Also technicians and physicians in charge of each procedure conduct the subdivisions of the laboratory.
