General Intensive Care Units are clinics where our adult intensive care patients are followed up and treated. Health Sciences University and Yıldırım Beyazıt University Faculty of Medicine faculty members, educators and intensive care specialists came together in our clinic. Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Intensive Care Clinic Administrative Officer Prof. Dr. Sema Turan and Education Officer Prof. Dr. Seval İzdeş, in total, 6 professors, 6 associate professors, 16 intensive care specialists and 25 intensive care sub-branch assistants in our clinic, provide services in the diagnosis and treatment of critical diseases in the light of evidence-based medical knowledge, taking into account the latest scientific and technological developments. While organ functions that are impaired during the critical illness period are supported, the diagnosis of diseases is made with a scientific and holistic approach, by making councils and consultations with different disciplines when necessary, and their treatment is applied without delay.

The general intensive care units of our clinic are located in Ankara Bilkent City Hospital Neurology and Orthopedics Hospital, Cardiovascular Hospital, General Hospital and Oncology Hospital campuses. It has a total of 240 intensive care beds, with 24 beds in each intensive care unit. All of our beds comply with the 3rd level intensive care standards.

Our intensive care nurses provide full-time service in the close follow-up and treatment of 2 patients in accordance with the standards. In the follow-up and treatment of patients; faculty members, education assistants, intensive care specialists, intensive care sub-branch assistants and assistants of 6 majors (Anesthesiology and Reanimation, Internal Medicine, Neurology, Chest Diseases, Infectious Diseases and Clinical Microbiology and General Surgery) who can train in the intensive care unit rotationally serves as.

 


Education:

Intensive care sub-branch training has been provided in our clinic since February 2019, and our aim is to train well-equipped intensive care specialists, whom we can safely entrust our future with. In our clinic, the intensive care core education curriculum is applied in a regular and disciplined way, both theoretically and practically, in order to train future intensive care specialists. Intensive care sub-branch assistants also regularly perform their mandatory rotations.

To date, 22 intensive care specialists have graduated from our clinic and these specialists are serving throughout the country.


Diseases Diagnosed and Treated:

Patients can be treated in the general intensive care unit for many reasons, clinical conditions that cause frequent admission to the intensive care unit: sepsis, shock, coma, trauma, poisoning, neurological events, cardiovascular diseases, severe pneumonia or serious infection, respiratory failure, acute or chronic organ failures, kidney failure, hematological disorders, diabetic ketoacidosis etc. are situations. Follow-up and treatment of prolonged post-operative patients is also carried out in the intensive care unit.

All kinds of invasive interventions, advanced respiratory and cardiac monitoring, EEG (electroencephalography), EMG (electromyography), functional hemodynamic monitoring, ECO (echocardiography), percutaneous tracheotomy, diagnostic and interventional procedures accompanied by ultrasonography, and bronchoscopy that should be applied to intensive care patients in our clinic is implemented. In our clinic, it is possible to perform bedside dialysis in all intensive care beds. In addition, bedside continuous hemodiafiltration, plasmapheresis, ECMO (extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) and therapeutic hypothermia can be applied.


Departmental Units:

In the Palliative Care Unit of our clinic, chronic care patients are served. provides necessary training on the prevention of healthcare-associated infections.

The Nutrition Support Unit evaluates the nutritional status of the patients in the intensive care unit and helps to provide nutritional support in an appropriate way.

In addition, physical therapy programs prepared by the Physiotherapy and Rehabilitation doctors of our hospital are regularly applied to the patients in our intensive care units with experienced physiotherapists.


How do I benefit?:

Patients who meet the criteria for admission to the intensive care unit, who are consulted from the emergency room, in-hospital inpatient services and external center via the 112 Emergency Line, are admitted to our General Intensive Care units, with the decision of the education staff and the intensive care specialist.


Intensive Care Patient Relatives Information and Visitor Rules:

Information about the patient's condition is given to the relatives of the patients in a certain order, in the intensive care patient information rooms, by the patient's physician between 13:00 and 14:00.
Depending on the availability of the service in the intensive care units, you can visit your patient between 13:00 and 14:00 every day, limited to the time determined by the responsible of the intensive care unit.
Visitor rules in our intensive care clinic, T.C. It has been determined in accordance with the circular numbered 2019/09 of the General Directorate of Health Services of the Ministry of Health.


COVID-19 Precautions:

During the COVID-19 pandemic, more than 20,000 patients were treated in the intensive care units of our hospital. In accordance with the decisions of the pandemic board and the hospital administration, when the intensive care unit is needed due to the pandemic, it may be necessary to transform the intensive care unit into a COVID intensive care unit and transfer your patient to another intensive care unit. In this case, you will be informed by the intensive care physician. In COVID-19 intensive care units, visitors are not accepted. The responsible intensive care physician will inform the patient's first-degree relatives by phone, in a certain order, according to the availability of the service.
